Innovative Hardwood Floors also installs engineered hardwood floors. If you have not already selected your hardwood floor, come visit our showroom. A specialist at Innovative Hardwood Floors will assist you with your selection by bringing samples of hardwood floors to you and discuss with you the characteristics and benefits of each type of wood (strength, quality, normal use, coloring and history), as well as provide recommendations. Doing so will help you select the right type of hardwood flooring for your project.
Listed below are the steps involved when we install hardwood floors.
Initial Walk-Through
Once you have requested an estimate, a specialist from Innovative Hardwood Floors will come to your home to perform an initial walk-through and discuss the work to be performed with you. The walk-through usually last between 20 minutes to 60 minutes depending on the size of your project. The specialist will gather as much information as possible in order to fully understand the scope of work and requirements of your project.
Depending on your requirements and the scope of work involved, it may take up to 24 hours after the initial walk-through for the specialist to provide you with an estimate.
Upon your acceptance of our estimate, we will work with you to schedule your project. A 50% deposit is required to start work and an agreement detailing the scope of work and cost will be prepared.
Upon your initial deposit, Innovative Hardwood Floors will order all the necessary material and take “before” pictures of the work area.
Installation Process
Installing hardwood floors will require the work area to be unobstructed. You will need to remove all furniture off the floor and pictures off of the walls and out of the room (s) where work will take place. Innovative Hardwood Floors can, at your request and for an additional fee, remove your furniture from the work area and put it back, in the same place, once the work is complete.
When your new hardwood floors are installed, sanding and finishing will be required to achieve the color you desire (unless the hardwood boards you selected are already pre-finished from the factory.) As part of our dust containment system (which is 90% dust free in the beginning stages of the refinishing process and 98% dust free at the final coat of varnishing) we will protect your cabinets and door ways to shield them from the wood dust produced during sanding if your floor plan allows. Even though we use dust-free sanders, dust is still produced and if you have allergies and are sensitive to dust particles, we recommend you not being present while sanding is taking place in your home.
Your specific project may require the removal of an existing floor. If during the removal of your floor we observe that the sub-floor is in bad condition and in need of repairs or replacement, we will notify you immediately. Innovative Hardwood Floors can repair and/or replace sub floors for you at an additional charge. The cost of replacing or repairing damaged sub floor is not included in the estimate simply because sub floor damages cannot be observed without first removing the upper floor layer.
Final Walk-Through
Depending on the size of your project, the work can take anywhere from a few days to weeks to complete. Throughout the installation process, your hardwood floor specialist will be in contact with you daily to update you on the progresses of your project.
Once the work is completed, Innovative Hardwood Floors will clean up the work space including the removal of construction debris, vacuuming dust from sanding (if applicable) and moving your furniture back to their original place if you elected for us to perform that service for you. With your permission, your hardwood floor specialist will take a picture of the finished project and show the before and after results.
When the project is done and the work area is clean, your hardwood floor specialist will do a final walk-through with you. During the final walk-through, you will have a chance to inspect the work done. If you see something that has not been done to your complete satisfaction, this is the time to mention your concerns.
Your specialist will go over with you how to care for your newly installed hardwood floors. Your questions are welcome. If you forget to ask us something, you can always contact our office with your questions.
Once the walk-through is complete and you are satisfied with the work, final payment for the installation will be due.
